Adult Swimming Skills and Lesson Goals
Movement, Technique and Fitness Goals
- Supported Movement: Water can provide a comfortable environment for practising movement. Anyone with a medical condition, injury or pain should seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional before starting.
- Whole-Body Practice: Lessons can combine coordinated arm, leg and breathing movements at a pace suited to the swimmer.
- Fitness Goals: Swimmers can work progressively on stamina and efficient movement according to their current ability.
- Body Position: Coaches can help swimmers practise alignment, balance and control in the water.
- Returning After Injury: Swimming lessons are not medical rehabilitation. Please obtain medical clearance where appropriate and tell us about relevant needs before lessons begin.
- Individual Pacing: Lesson intensity and activities can be adjusted after discussing comfort, mobility and learning goals.
- Ongoing Participation: Adults can continue practising water confidence and swimming technique across different life stages.
- Personal Progress: Goals are set around each swimmer’s starting point, preferences and intended use of the skill.
Confidence and Familiarity
- Comfort in Water: Familiar activities and gradual progression can help swimmers become more comfortable in the lesson environment.
- Skill Confidence: Practising achievable steps can help swimmers recognise their progress.
- Breathing and Focus: Lessons may include controlled breathing and attention to one movement at a time.
Water Safety Skills
- Foundational Skills: Lessons may cover safe entry and exit, floating, recovery to standing and treading water where suitable.
- Safety Awareness: Swimming ability reduces some risks but does not replace active supervision, safe behaviour or appropriate flotation equipment.
Social Opportunities and Inclusivity
- Building Relationships: Group swimming courses give adults the opportunity to meet like-minded people and cultivate friendship and community awareness.
- Suitable for All Levels of Integration: Your course can be suitable for beginners to learn swimming and those who are perfecting their skills so that everyone can participate.
Patient, Adult-Focused Swimming Instruction
Coach matching considers the swimmer’s goals, experience and preferences. Please ask us about the assigned coach’s relevant background and credentials when enquiring. For general reference on swimming education in Singapore, check out CondoSwimming.sg.
Your Safety Is Our Priority
Key Skills We Focus On
At Special Needs Swimming, we don’t just teach swimming — we build trust, confidence, and comfort with every lesson. Our instructors bring patience and structured guidance to each class, offering one-on-one and small group lessons right in your community pool. With a focus on safety, inclusion, and steady progress, we create a positive and supportive learning journey for every swimmer.
- Stroke Refinement: We help you adjust your swimming style-whether it’s freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke or butterfly swimming. Our coach will guide you how to move more effectively in the water, so that you can swim in a more beautiful, less effort and more confident way.
2. Endurance and Fitness: Adult lessons can progressively build continuous swimming time and efficient pacing. Progress varies with practice, starting ability and individual goals.
3. Water Safety Skills: Lessons may include floating, treading water, safe entry and exit, and recognising personal limits. No swimming skill guarantees safety in every situation.
4. Water Comfort: Swimmers can practise breathing control and relaxed, efficient movement in a structured lesson environment.
5. Event Preparation: Where coach experience and swimmer goals align, lessons can focus on stroke efficiency, pacing and open-water preparation. Confirm suitability when enquiring.

FAQ
1. Am I too old to learn how to swim?
Never! Learning is never too late. We have taught students aged 30, 40, 50 and above. Age is not important – your safety and comfort are important.
2. What should I bring for the first class?
Just bring swimsuits, towels, goggles, and a positive mindset! If you have a swim cap or fins, please carry it with you, but it is not required.
3. Where will the course be held?
Swimming classes are conducted at your apartment swimming pool, so it’s very convenient and familiar. No need to move, our coach will come.
4. Do I need to be fit to start swimming?
You can start from your current ability. Tell us about relevant health, mobility or fitness considerations so lesson intensity can be discussed; seek medical advice before beginning if needed.
5. May I ask the male or female coach?
Yes, of course! We hope you feel completely comfortable. Please let us know your preferences when registering.
